Question Submitted:
The drawings specify 24' long 1/2" plate steel which is not available in this length. Is it OK to butt weld plate together to achieve the desired length?
Response Received:
The Designer has done a search and found suppliers with lengths up to 40’ long and with the widths required on the drawings. Butt joints of shorter lengths will introduce other details that will be required to be reviewed and approved by USACE. The Contractor will also be required to perform additional weld testing. Butt joints are not preferred given there is plate available.
Question Submitted:
On the drawings, certain metal plate pieces have (FCM) on their callouts. We assume that "FCM" stands for "Fracture Control Material". Is this correct?
Response Received:
“FCM” is defined in Note 2 on drawing S-100, as well as spec section 05 59 20 paragraph 1.2.4 Fracture Critical Members (FCM).
